Colorado!!!

26 04 2008

Well, Danielle and I are going to be going to Colorado tomorrow.  I’m stoked.  I love Colorado.  This is exciting because it’s going to be our first real vacation.  We’ve normally gone to Danielle’s parents condo in Oceanside, CA or up to their cabin in Prescot.  This time, we have booked our flights, got a rental car, now that i’m old enough to rent a car on my own.

We are staying with my cousin Kelly in Fort Collins.  I have alot of family there, so we’re going to be doing the family thing, but we also plan to take alot of time for just us as well.  I think we plan on hitting the New Belgium Brewery, Estes Park, maybe go up the Poudre River.  Ha Ha, I said Poudre (it’s pronounced like Pooder).  I was also hoping to take a day to just drive through the city and the back country just to get a feel for the Fort Collins area.  I’m hoping that Danielle and I can live there sometime.  I love it there.  It’s just soo peaceful.  Granted I haven’t been there in many years, but I’m sure it’s pretty much the same.  Anyways, we’re going to take lots of pictures and I’m sure have lots of stories.

Friends for Life

21 04 2008

So, my friend Eric and I just had a joint birthday party at my house and it was awesome.  We had all of our old crew and their spouses over to my house and it was a blast.  It’s really cool to see the progression of how far we’ve come and how far others haven’t.

For example, I have one buddy who was not here last night, but he now lives in Denver, CO and works as a pilot for one of the major airlines.  Not bad considering he’s only been out of college for 3 years.  He makes a pretty decent living and gets to fly all over the world and explore.  I have another buddy who is in Med. School at U of A.  He has a girlfriend/future wife that is in nursing school their as well.  He is going to be an orthodpedic surgeon probably going to be living in Colorado when he’s done with school which should be about 5 years away.  Now he has his ducks lined up.  Then, on the other end of the spectrum, I have another buddy who makes a pretty decent living selling cars for a major auto dealer, he’s married, but he smokes weed and cigarettes every single day, as well as being obliterated every other day of the week.  If he doesn’t pass out on the toilet or throw up, then he didn’t have a great night.  Then I have another buddy who has been taking one class for about 3 semesters now in college trying to pass it but can’t.  That’s not that bad, that could happen to anyone.  Now add on the fact that he has a part time job working at a health and fitness place, lives with his parents in their living room, with his girlfriend.  All of these are my friends who I love dearly, and would sacrifice alot for.  It’s just amazing.  You know that people say your friends have alot to do with how you turn out.  I agree.  But I think this is evidence that no matter who you hang out with, you still ultimately control how you go through life.

I know it sounds like I’m picking on my friends or making fun of them.  These are my dearest friends.  I love them to death.  In fact, we were just talking about it after the party, our variety of friends and how we’ve all turned out and grown up or not grown up.  Talk about the spice of life.  I had just as much fun, hanging out with two of my friends the next morning after the party, than the actually party.

We have a group of us that are really close.  We call ourselves the four horsemen.  I think this is very befitting.  If one of us falls behind or struggles, the other three horsemen will literally pick up the fallen one, put them on our shoulders and carry them out of their troubles or issues.  No matter what the cost, we stick by each other.  We were thinking about it today, and we’ll probably vacation together at least once a year for the rest of our lives.  I can easily see all four of us living by each other, my wife working for my buddy the orthopedic surgeon, with his wife also being an RN.  It’s picturesque. PLBD Crew

I’m probably going to get some grief for this one

For what you ask.  I think that equal rights and segregation has come full circle.  I remember a time when all women wanted was to be treated as equals with men.  What happened?  We treated women as equals.  Now what has happened?  Women are segregating themselves from men.  Same thing with African Americans.  I believe totally and completely that African Americans are the exact same as everyone else.  Yet, we have tv shows, radio programs, and scholarships for only African Americans.  Why are we seperating everyone now?

I just don’t get it.  First the women.  I saw a Devry commercial the other day that showed a woman who went to Devry and got her degree and now, they have asked to her come back to the school to teach “women how to succeed”.  Why?  women are equal right?  They can succeed just like men can correct?  I understand that there are still instances where women are paid less for the same work.  There should be someone regulating that.  When you keep focussing on how women aren’t treated the same, so there for you start making seperate programs, conferences and so forth focused on women, you are adding to the problem.  You are seperating women from men.  So here’s the deal.  You can treat women the same as men, and have someone regulating it to make sure they are treated fairly, or you can be seperated.  Choose.  You can’t have it both ways women.  I’m tired of it. You want to be treated equally right?  How about you go work in a warehouse and load and unload thousands of boxes and keep up with the men.  Women get much better tips than guys do, because they have “assets” that guys don’t.  Do we complain?  We do the same work they do and they get better money.  That’s not fair right?

The same goes for African Americans.  Now understand what I’m saying because I know that this could easily be misconstrued.  I think that African Americans have had it bad here in America since they were brought over in slavery.  I think slavery was one of the lowest points in our country’s history.  Now, slavery is done and over with and has been for decades.  Segregation and discrimination is also unacceptable.  I think that we as a country have made great advances to stop these things.  No, I don’t think that they are completely abolished.  I’m not ignorant to the fact that people are treated different.  On the other hand, I do think that African Americans are hurting the progression.  Why do we have BET, Associations, and Scholarships/Grants for African Americans ONLY?  Isn’t that by definition segregation?  Isn’t that discriminating against all other races?  Why?  Are African Americans at a disadvantage?  No.  Look up “African American Association” on google and see what pops up.  I saw “African American RV’ers Association” and “African American Innkeepers Association” and “African American Photographers Association”.  What in the world?  Who’s segregating against who now?  Don’t get me wrong.  I don’t think that “White” people are persecuted, I just think that it’s come full circle now.  Now do a search for “Caucasian Association”.  I didn’t find one.  Not that there aren’t any, but I highly doubt that there is an Association that helps out “Caucasian Innkeepers”.

I will probably touch on these again some time, but I really want to hear what you people have to say.

How frustrating is looking for a JOB!

2 04 2008

So I’ve been out of work for 2 weeks now and it’s kinda cool having the day off and whatnot, but JOB searches suck!

I’ve been working with my buddy Adam for a week and a half, but I’ve also been looking for jobs and trying to find out what I want to do.  It’s frustrating because I could only make the kind of money I was making in Architecture, but I don’t want to do that anymore.  I feel that I’m been pushed into Architecture a little because of the worry of finances.  Oddly enough though, I would rather work 2 jobs making 10 bucks an hour instead of one Architecture job.  Not that Architecture is bad, it’s just not what I’m going to do the rest of my life, and I want to meet more people.

So, what am I going to do?  Do I serve and be a package handler?  Do I work at a hotel and be a concierge?  Do I help set up displays for grocery stores?  This is the non-sense I’m having to go between.  The worst part is, I don’t want anything too important if that makes any sense.  I want to go to work, do my job, and then leave.  That’s all.  I might be setting my sites a little low, but I have my reasons.  Or maybe I don’t and that’s my excuse?  I don’t know.  What do you think?

What should CHRIS BARTON do??????  Help me out!!!
